All parents want the best for their child and every child wants to be happy. A true education satisfies both these needs. To do this it needs both teachers, who are genuine in every aspect of their being, and an educational system based on authentic principles.

Your children, our pupils, want to know about themselves, what they are here for, what they should put their hearts into. They are curious about the universe, the world they live in, and their role in the scheme of things. In this time of rapid change and huge challenges in society, they very much want to establish true and lasting relationships. This is guided in John Scottus by the knowledge and understanding of the School and its teachers. Here students are given the best and finest works that our civilisation and culture offer. Through this process they come to understand that only spiritual knowledge gives them full understanding, and that they themselves already have this knowledge. They come to see that good things are important things.

The power of attention or concentration is presented again and again as the master tool they must develop to be able to take on anything in life – this brings about stillness as the key to learning and to their general wellbeing. Hence the School motto “Laetus Impraesens” which means “Delight in the present” and was the motto used by the renaissance philosopher Marsilio Ficino in his Platonic Academy.

This is what we in John Scottus will work for unstintingly in the belief that society will feel the benefit of our pupils as they move on to take their place in the world.

Attention, Concentration, Love and Family are some of the themes which are explored with the pupils in their weekly Philosophy Lesson. To find out more, click here
