Transition Year has been contributing to and benefiting from Worldwise advice and finance since 2007.  We are currently linked with four schools in West Bengal by way of this Irish Aid agency which promotes global citizenship and human equality understanding in schools throughout Ireland and in the developing world.

Very recently the Worldwise global conference was held in the Aviva Stadium where the school was awarded the WWGS Global Passport by Sean Sherlock TD Minister of State at Department of Foreign Affairs. A selection of our TY students represented the school and themselves at DevEd workshops throughout the day and got the opportunity to critically engage with social, local and global issues like climate change, global inequality, AIDS, human rights and gender.

The interaction with over 300 of their peers from all over the country was a tremendous learning and growing experience. It is truly impressive to bear witness to the intelligence and creativity which young people are showing in their level of engagement and to how appreciated the student voice is.

We were rewarded for our whole school approach to development education – but were encouraged and inspired by other schools to grow within, as a self-aware and caring student body and to grow outwards as a member of the local and global community of schools. Truly, the world is ours.
