Art Class visit National Art Gallery

On the 18th of January, the fifth and sixth year art students visited the Hugh Gallery, so that we would be able to answer our Gallery Visit exam question. The Hugh Lane is housed in a Neo Classical building but it holds modern and contemporary art. We were given a tour of many interesting rooms in the gallery, but in my opinion, Francis Bacon’s studio was the highlight. The Francis Bacon studio was previously located in London, but it was brought to Dublin and reconstructed to its original state. It is extremely chaotic, with materials and visual resources strewn everywhere. He even used to use his walls as palettes.
Overall, it was a great day, and the experience inspired us and gave us a lot to think about. I discovered that when you see a painting in person, you are able to understand and appreciate it so much more.
