Sports Update May 2016

With the John Scottus annual sports day fast approaching P.E classes took on an athletic theme for a large part of April. During these P.E classes students were given the opportunity to practice some of the most popular athletic events. Whether it be long distance running around the park, short distance sprints such as the 100m and 200m or field events such as the long jump students had the opportunity to sample many different events and get a feel for what they enjoyed most. Athletics training was also held on Tuesdays after school for students who found they really liked a particular event and wanted to participate in the East Leinster Athletics Championships in Santry at the end of April.

The East Leinster Athletics Championships took place on Wednesday the 27th and Thursday the 28th of April. A huge amount of students from various schools traveled up to Santry to compete over the two days. The John Scottus athletes performed brilliantly on both days and whether they were delighted or slightly disappointed with how they got on in their race their good spirits and sportsmanship could be seen throughout as they finished every race with a smile on their face. On a personal note I though it was great to see how they cheered each other on constantly throughout the day and waited at the finish line for one another even in weather conditions that were at times difficult.
