TY Hits the High Note!

Last Saturday, January 23rd John Scottus transition year put on a brilliant gig at the Grand Social in order to raise much needed funds for their teaching project in India. Eve O’Reilly led the TY team who recruited bands, put the program together, identified possible judges, sorted the venue, advertised, designed posters and tickets, promoted the event, secured sponsorship and all the other myriad of tasks involved in putting on a top class event.  The varied playlist featured some great musicians and some of the bands played to a very high standard. Finn O’Reilly (studying Jazz at Newpark), Neil Hannon (Divine Comedy) and Dan Oggly  (Delorentos, Tindersticks) were the expert judging panel.  On stage we saw some old friends of JSS like Douglas Smith and Isobel Andrews McCarroll. Of course the greatest band ever; Sanlorie played a blinder. The judges were great, Neil Hannon gave the bands very useful advice in his comments at the end. 10 bands performed and the winners, Trooper Charlie won a cash prize generously sponsored by Elizabeth Kirby Designers and will be the Featured Band in Dublin Concerts.

Well done TY! You guys have shown true grit and flair. You can do anything you put your mind and hearts to!
