The Annual Speech Competition 2015

The Annual Speech Competition took place on Thursday December 2nd and was a whole school event. The competition, to fit the logistics of the school, is divided in two, Junior and Senior. Both categories were rigorous in their efforts, their enthusiasm and information. The scene was set in the TY room for the Senior and G21 for the Junior Competition.

Mr Telford played dual roles as MC and entertainment for the Juniors along with My Flynn, Davis Sveds, Nathan Bossier and Maria Colfer.  Entertainment for the 6th  year students was provided by Michael Ryan, Sasha Watt, Damien Collins and Aisling Gannon whilst Ms. Maguire Timmins acted as MC.

The speeches were excellently diverse from The love of Pistachios (Brianna Woods 5th year, which came 4th) ,How Donald Trump would not make a good President (James Martin 5th year, which achieved 3rd place ), Tv Violence (Daman Singh 2nd Year), ESports (Richard Shpekht 2nd year) , Units of Time (Shay Condron 3rd Year) Improving our Society (Emma Lohan 3rd year)  Our planet (Damien Collins 6th year), Animal Equality (Willow Hannon 2nd year who came second ),Losing (Michel Ryan 6th year), My Bucket List (Jessica Spratt 1st year), Why the EU should accept Refugees (Aditi Verma TY) Humanity’s Actions (Harry Lawlor 1st year),Confidence (Jack Condron 6th year), How teenagers can make a difference (Darcie Anderson TY), Consequences (Ciaran Wakely 5th year)  to How to make an award winning speech (Devang Mehta 1st year which took the third prize). Each and every one of them had their audience in the palm of their hands.

Our external Judges, Mrs Mc Geough, Ms Swan (senior competition) Mr Dempsey and an alumni Kiah Ronaldon all praised the high standard and level of commitment each participant gave.

As with all competitions there can only be certain winners. Kaiya Ready Pfeiffer(2nd year) gained first in the Junior Competition with her speech on The Pros and Cons of the Internet whilst Massy Ronaldson (TY) raised the wining Senior trophy for her speech on A national Crisis.

A thank you needs to be given to all staff, Judges and students who helped to make this event TRULY great.

All participants were fantastic and deserve fervent applause for their determination, triumph over fear and reflective abilities.

All in all it is, was and continues to be, without fail, a marvellous event in the school calendar. I am already waiting in excited anticipation for our Speech Competition of 2016!
